No More Prime

We ended our Amazon Prime membership today after 13-ish years. We’ve been shopping locally a bit more and also not shopping as much–using the public library for borrowing books and DVDs, and, if we feel like streaming, using Kanopy.com. Plus, we’ve become increasingly unsettled about some of Amazon’s business practices: the way it treats its warehouse employees, its overt anti-unionization efforts, its (until recent) decision to farm out deliveries to third-party contractors that seem to put their employees’ (and members of the public) at risk of severe injury and death all in the name of getting a package to a doorstep as soon as possible. It’s not worth it.
