#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Kevin Windham 1999

Rider: Kevin Windham

In 1999 Kevin Windham stepped away from the Yamaha team, which he had a two-year contract with. After disagreements within the organization, Kevin found himself on Honda for the 99′ and 2000 seasons before heading to Suzuki.  From here, we can see he was feeling comfortable onboard the Honda despite what was going on behind the scenes. Read about it here.

MOTO SPOTLIGHT: THIS WEEK AT THE LORETTA LYNN’S DUDE RANCH

“MXA, my “Moto Spotlight,” This week, we head to Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, where riders from around the world have gathered to race. They’ve trained all year for this event, making it one of the ultimate proving grounds for amateur motocross riders. Since its start in 1982, this location has had a rich history. Besides being a competitive venue, it also serves as a vacation spot for race families, offering amenities like a swimming pool, creek swimming, bicycle riding, and more. It’s a family event with a competitive edge.

Ten Commandments LORETTA LYNN'S 2020-4

Every year, Loretta’s showcases the top amateur motocross athletes from across the nation who come together to compete against each other. This event has been a career start for many successful professional riders, including names like Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart, Adam Cianciarulo, Cooper Webb, and many others. The preparation for Loretta’s is highly organized, with qualifying races nationwide. Only the top qualifying riders from their region earn the chance to compete in the race, guaranteeing that the event exhibits the highest level of talent in amateur motocross.

Like a combine race for all amateurs, Loretta’s is the place to prove your skill, dedication, and overall grit in front of some of the world’s best teams. From here, the A riders will usually decide to continue with the AMA Pro series starting at Unadilla or to put effort towards another year of amateur racing. If you want to check out live timing, you can find it here.

MENTAL TOUGHNESS IN MOTOCROSS

Austin Forkner 2023 Washougal National-9808

Along with the endurance and overall fearlessness of motocross racing comes a large mental strain. How do riders overcome this? To go through something traumatic at the start of a moto but still have the toughness to finish out the moto. Well, first of all, mentally tough riders tend to have very positive attitudes. They encounter challenges like everyone else, but when the trials come, they push through. The strongest riders enjoy the challenges because they know they’ll gain mental strength conquering them. The first key to becoming mentally tough is realizing that challenges will come. The second step is tackling them head-on. You can see more on how riders overcome this mental battle here.

MXA MINI TEST // REV X MAX POWER ADDITIVE

RevX oils P1099548

Dan Wilson from RevX Oil told us that by using their additive, we could remove the radiators and still take the bike out on the track. No, it’s not something that we (or Dan) recommend, but he explained that thanks to better lubrication, the engine would run smoother, quicker, and cooler than before. Check out the MXA video here.

VERDICT: We were pleasantly surprised by the result of this test. After a few moto’s without radiators on the machine, we did not seize the engine. It did get hot, but nothing catastrophic happened. We did find issues with the electronics becoming too hot, but overall for better performance, this was a great product to test.
