When next week’s “Saturday at the Glen ” race takes place on June 24 on Glen Helen’s Arroyo track they will officially be halfway through the 2023 “Saturday at the Glen” race schedule. The turnouts have been growing consistently because riders are discovering that when they race at “Saturday at the Glen” they will get long motos, not have to wait through 20 different motos and almoyt always will be done by 2:00 p.m.—so they can get home in time to clean their bike to race or ride on Sunday.

This Saturday, there were 217 riders signed up to race on the National track (“Saturday at the Glen” runs four races in a row on the Arroyo track and the fifth race on the National track). They were divided into eight motos with double gates, with 15-minute motos for the Amateur classes and 20-minute motos for the Pro motos. The last moto ended before 2:00 p.m. Plus, Glen Helen only charges a $10 gate fee for riders racing at “Saturday at the Glen” and the entry fee is only $30 if the rider pre-enters on the internet ($40 if you wait until the morning of the race).

What follows is a Debbi Tamietti photo essay of all the happenings at this week’s “Saturday at the Glen” motocross.

Sean Lipanovich (505) is the current World Vet Champion and is as close as Glen Helen gets to a local star. He took the 450 Pro victory. Enjoy!

The fast lap times on the National track were 2:03 for the Pros, 2:12 for the Over-50 Experts,  2:24 for the Over-60 Experts,  2:23 for the 450 Novices, 2:21 for the 85s and 2:38 for the 65s (who raced the full track). The PeeWees raced on a shorter track without the big hills. Amazingly, the lap times on the Arroyo track, which everyone thinks is shorter because half of it is hidden behind  big hills, are almost identical to the National track and sometimes longer if they add in the Budds Creek sand section.

Preston Tilford (491) has lots of speed in the first half of each moto, but fades a little later in the races. He went 2-2 in the 450 Pro class.

Brian Medeiors was one of the riders injured in the giant start crash at the World Two-Stroke Championship—and took an ambulance ride to the hospital.  He healed up in time to try to race the Pala and Hangtowns Nationals, but wasn’t quite ready yet. Josh Fout (91) was on the road working as John Mosiman’s AMA National mechanic at the Pala, Hangtown and Thunder Valley Nationals. The big plus was that Josh got to race the National Amateur races on Thursday and Friday before the AMA 450 Nationals on Saturday. 2023 “SATURDAY AT THE GLEN” SCHEDULE

If you are looking for a racing organization that offers long motos, low cost and very consistent race schedule—this is it. “Saturday at the Glen” motocross will race again next Saturday, June 24 and again on July 15 and July 29. Pre-entry is only $30 ($25 for minis). Post entry on the day of the race is $40 ($30 for minis). The Gate fee is $10 (per person). You can sign up on the internet for the next “Saturday at the Glen” motocross as late as the Friday before the next race (or just show up in person on race day).
