2023 BUDD’S CREEK NATIONAL PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE

The 2023 Pro Motocross championship has made its way to Budd’s Creek in Mechanicsville, MD, just outside our nation’s Capital. One of the oldest rounds in motocross, this track has a rich history, and obstacles like  Henry Hill could be the deciding factor.  Jett Lawrence last weekend wrapped up the 450 Championship with still two rounds left to go. So far, he has been 18- 18 for motos, and now, with the pressure of a Championship off;  will we see him sail into another four moto wins? The 250 Class is still undecided, but Hunter Lawrence was able to regain control of the points lead after Haiden Deegans DNF with two laps left in moto one. Still, a lot of racing left for the 250 class; as we’ve seen multiple times this year, anything can happen.

REALITY IN MOTOCROSS

Haiden Deegan 2023 Hangtown National-9602
Haiden Deegan (238) has had an outstanding rookie season, one of which will stand with some of the best. Unfortunately, last weekend his reliance on the machine became all too real. In moto one at Unadilla, Haiden’s bike was making concerning noises and towards the end, with two laps left, the Star Yamaha YZ250F gave out. This is not at the fault of the mechanic or Haiden; the reality is, this is motocross, and anything can happen.

THE JO SHOW

Jo Shimoda 2023 Thunder Valley National-1556Don’t count Jo Shimoda  out. Jo doesn’t seem to catch the announcer’s attention as much as Haiden Deegan (238) or Hunter Lawrence, but Shimoda is definitely there and can score an overall at any time. Last weekend at Unadilla, Jo went 3-3 for 4th overall, someone you should not count out in the last couple of rounds.

BETTER EACH WEEK

Chase Sexton 2023 Fox Raceway National-0162Every weekend, Chase Sexton’s (23) lap times match Jett Lawrence’s (18) or right around him, but Chase needs to minimize the mistakes, which is not easy at these speeds. We saw Chase miss a couple of rounds at the beginning of the season due to concussion, and it seems like he came back to the series to learn and prep himself for the SuperMotocross Playoffs. Even though Championship hopes were lost for Chase by round two, he has pushed incredibly hard the rest of the year.

BUILDING BACK STRENGTH

Adam Cianciarulo 2023 Thunder Valley National-2020Adam Cianciarulo (9) has been dealing with quite a bit of arm pump issues in the last few years, stemming from a previous injuries. Adam is racing himself back into shape. We can see at times, depending on the track, that his arms are unable to hang on throughout the moto. But the motos that we see Adam feeling good, he rides just as fast as anyone in the 450 Class.

TV SCHEDULE: BUDD’S CREEK NATIONAL

RJ Hampshire 2023 Washougal National-8477RJ getting low in a rut at Washougal. Unfortunately, he took quite the hit at Unadilla and will not be racing Budds Creek.

ANOTHER PERFECT SEASON

Jett Lawrence 2023 Hangtown National-8653It’s possible that Jett Lawrence will add his name alongside Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart on the list of perfect seasons. Throughout the majority of the races, announcers can be heard saying, “He doesn’t look to be trying that hard” or “Maybe he’s pacing himself.” Amazingly, Jett is riding with so much skill and technique that people don’t believe he’s putting in his full potential. This is something unlike what we’ve ever seen, and we believe he can get the job done .
