WATCH ROMAIN FEBVRE WIN INDONESIA #2 & STILL LOSE POINTS TO JORGE PRADO

The World Motocross Championship ended its two-race stay in Indonesia at the Selaparang circuit on Sunday. A race that was punctuated with a very weird dirt composition that had riders blowing through powder berms and sliding out in every corner.

In the 450 class, Romain Febvre proved to be the master of Indonesia dirt by winning his second Indonesian GP in two weekends. Febvre’s 2-1 tied 450 points leader Jorge Prado’s 1-2, and even though Febvre was credited with the GP win, he lost points to Prado in the title chase because Prado won Saturday’s qualifying race for gate pick on Sunday. Qualifying paid Prado 10 points, but Febvre was third in qualifying and only got 8 points on Saturday. That meant that Jorge Prado left Indonesia with a 103-point lead over Febvre in the title chase.

Jeffrey Herlings, who missed both Indonesian rounds with a neck injury, is now 176 points behind Jorge Prado.

On a side note: six Southeast Asian riders scored Grand Prix points during the two races in Indonesia. Points are paid to the top 20 placings in every moto. So, those six riders earned points automatically because there were only 18 riders in the 450 class and 19 riders in the 250 GP. Compare that the 84 riders who signed up to race the 450 National and 90 riders in the 250 class at Red Bud this past weekend.

In the 250 class, Jago Geerts swept both motos, plus he won the qualfiying race on Saturday to boost him up to fourth in the standings. Geerts, the preseason favorite to win the 250 World Championship, until he crashed and missed two rounds is now 47 points behind Championship leader Andrea Adamo, 21 points behind second place Thibault Benistant and 11 point adrift of third place Kay de Wolf.

The 12th round of the 19-round 2023 FIM World Motocross Championship will be on July 16 in the Czech Republic.
