As the 2023 World Vet Championship gets closer, more and more Vet riders show up at “Saturday at the Glen” to start tuning up for three days of racing against international competition in approximately one month. And when the “Saturday at the Glen” races move to the National track, where the World Vet will be held on November 3-5, the chance to get to practice on the long start, steep hills and deep ruts become important. Although the actual World Vet track will not be revealed until the big weekend approaches .

Luckily, “Saturday at the Glen” gives out-of-state or out of shape riders a chance to race against World Vet winners—This Saturday, Sean Lipanovich was in the 450 Pro class. Sean is the current Over-30 world Vet Champion. Gary Jones showed up to get a tune-up for the Over-70 World Vet Championships—where he is already a two-time Champion (and the only rider to have won World Vet titles in the Over-30,  Over-40, Over-50, Over-60 and Over-70 classes. These riders were joined by Pete Murray, who owns four Over-60 World Championship to go with his Over-40 and Over-50 crowns.

Whether you make it out to Glen Helen to prep for the World Vet, the talent at the Saturday races in the Over-40, -50, -60 and -70 classes is among the best in the country. These are the photos that ace photographer Debbi Tamietti shot on Saturday with help from Aussie Dan Alamangos and Jon Ortner when they weren’t racing. It is a cross-section of the racers in attendance. Enjoy! And if you ever get the urge to race again—”Saturday at the Glen” is waiting for you with open arms. And, it is the least expensive race in Southern California with a $30 entry fee and a $10 gate fee

Dirt Bike’s Ron Lawson (32) almost won the second moto of the Over-65 Expert class, but he missed his line on the last lap and got passed by former desert ace Bob Rutten, but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway because Ron’s 3-2, even if it was a 3-1 would not have beat Rutten’s 1-2.  Photo by Debbi TamiettI

Motocross Action’s Jody Weisel (86) switched to a 2024 Husqvarna FC250 on Saturday. Jody’s special matching white “Saturday Motocross”  jersey shows a little dirt on the left arm and shoulder from a crash in practice. The jersey comes from RHMX (they make custom jerseys and can be found on Instagram at @rhmx100 ). Photo by Debbi Tamietti
